I’d love to start off with a caveat, I am young and I don’t claim to know it all or have all the answers.
But, I have a strong believe about something we must or should know about as we passionate strive towards advocating against rape.
WHO IS MAUREEN ALIKOR AND WHAT RIGHT DOES SHE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT RAPE?
I am simply a survivor of rape who is committed to seeing and birthing a rape-free world, because I am 100% certain it’s possible, because I have seen it.
WHAT ARE THE HINDRANCES?
As a result of my rape experience, I launched an initiative called Demystify Abuse Campaign, with the 6-prong mission in mind.
1. Discourage silence and stigmatization of rape survivors
2. Champion total healing and recovery as a possibility using myself (and others) as a case study.
3. End rape and actively begin birthing a rape-free world.
4. Expose rape for what it is, not what we suspect(or think) it is.
5. Encourage survivors to see their survival as a tool for impact and advocacy.
6. Offer reorientation and rehabilitation of rapists/offenders.(this is an eventual plan)
First, I’d love to commend all the organizations that are working hand in hand to ensure we put an end to rape and rape related offences. I salute them all.
However in my work and survey, so far, I have noticed some rather salient points or hindrances I am led to point out.
HINDRANCE 1. OUR MINDSET AROUND THE #ENDRAPE hashtag
Unfortunately, I have noticed a lot of people do not ACTUALLY believe in the #endrape hashtag.
They do not believe RAPE can ever END, so they have chosen to keep addressing the wounds(victims) without actually seeking to address the underlying cause of the evil.
I know it’s no fault of theirs, I know the rot has eaten deep into the fabrics of our society making it so hard to see its absence.
I strongly believe that if we can win this mindset war, we will be closer to ending rape, and we would be more motivated to really strive towards birthing the world we have seen in our minds.
Next time you use the #ENDRAPE hashtag, pause and ask yourself if you TRULY believe it.
HINDRANCE 2. AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE UNDERLYING RAPE AGENDA
Also, I often see people say or assume that rape is SIMPLY a power play, I dare say it is much more than that.
A power play in their words, can be said to be a situation where a rapist sees an opportunity to wield power or influence over the victim, JUST because he (she) can.
Well, while that may be true for the most cases, I strongly believe it is much more than that.
I believe there is an agenda targeted at limiting, snatching and short-changing destinies. An agenda to make people less of who they were destined by God to be.
I know this because the side effects of rape on victims includes self hate, pity and self destruction.
They crawl up, shut themselves up and often see themselves damaged and beyond repair and unfit for any meaningful life.
I almost got wrapped up in this shitty mindset, but thank God for God who showed me where my true worth lies.
The above narrative is a HOAX, spoon-fed by the silencing of victims who speak out and the escalation of the stigmatization laid on them by the society
I know that as a rape victim or survivor, you don’t become less of yourself, you don’t lose your value, neither are you a disgrace to anyone, least of all yourself.
Oh, I also know your worth and value is not tied to your vagina (or penis).Won’t your worth be too small if it’s tied around these organs?
Human beings (especially women) are destined for great things and any ploy that can be employed by the devil and his agents to short-change these God-ordained destinies is employed and rape is one of these avenues.
Rape is much more than a power-play, it is destiny limiting agenda spearheaded by the devil and enforced by certain mindsets.
I believe if we begin to see rape for what it is and not just for what we assume it is, we will be fighting and or advocating wiser and we will have a desired goal in mind: A RAPE-FREE WORLD.
